You'll need to check off a few boxes on this list before you can start advertising yourself as a laser therapist in Australia.
- Take a laser safety training course that's been approved by radiation health departments and industry professional groups.
- If you are in Western Australia, you must possess a qualification equivalent to a Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy. This is NOT the case for other states and territories however.
- A laser licence can be obtained from the Radiation Health Department of your state or territory. BUT this is only required for Queensland, Tasmania and Western Australia.
- Continuing education and training are essential to keeping your laser theory and skills current. Do a refresher laser safety course every two years. If you haven't done a laser safety course since 2018 when the new 4173: 2018 Safe use of lasers and intense light sources in health care was released. It's time.
